In the future, Serhou Guirassy will play for Borussia Dortmund. This fuels speculation about the future of international Niclas Füllkrug. Coach Nuri Sahin speaks out.
After scoring 15 goals in pre-season and participating in the European Championship with Germany, Niclas Füllkrug was supposed to return to Borussia Dortmund with a lot of momentum. However, the signing of Serhou Guirassy from VfB Stuttgart has suddenly led to speculation about the 31-year-old attacker’s future at BVB.
According to media reports, the new competition in the center of attack means that a departure after one year in the Ruhr region is now on the cards. However, new coach Nuri Sahin has firm plans for the international: “Fülle knows what I think about him. We had a lot of contact over the summer,” Sahin said in a Sky interview about the BVB professional, who is currently not preparing for the season with his team-mates in Asia, but is still on vacation after the European Championship.
There have recently been rumors that two well-known clubs from abroad are interested in Füllkrug. Both AC Milan and Atletico Madrid are said to be interested in signing the Hannover native. According to the Bild newspaper, Atletico are even said to be preparing an offer of 30 million euros – BVB signed Füllkrug from Bremen a year ago for just under half that amount.
However, Sahin, who shares a common past with Füllrug, emphasized: “He was my teammate in Bremen and he knows how much he is valued by me. We want to have the best possible team, and Niclas Füllkrug and Serhou Guirassy play a central role in my plans.”
In any case, it is likely that there will be movement in the Borussia attacking midfield. In addition to the duo, Youssoufa Moukoko and Sebastien Haller are also under contract with the Revierklub. “We’ll see if we still have four strikers in six weeks’ time,” said sporting director Sebastian Kehl recently about the oversupply in BVB’s attack.
