On January 3, 2024, Alemannia Aachen will begin preparations for the Regionalliga West round. Two previously unknown faces will also be there.
Alemannia Aachen went into the winter break two points behind league leaders 1. FC Bocholt. Aachen will start training again on Wednesday, January 3, 2024.
“I now expect to have tunnel vision for five months. The full focus must be on our goal. We have to do everything we can to achieve it. Whether we achieve what we set out to do is up to us. We will then see whether our work is enough,” Heiner Backhaus emphasized to Forecasting.
The Alemannia coach will also welcome two new faces at the kick-off. As Radomir Novakovic has terminated his contract in Aachen and is likely to join Oberliga side Eintracht Trier, the Kaiserstadt club have reacted by signing a new goalkeeper in Leroy Zeller.
“Leroy introduced himself in training and impressed us. He comes from the region and identifies with the job. He has a top character that will also help us in the dressing room. At 23, Leroy also meets the U-rule,” explains Backhaus. He adds: “Leroy will line up as number two behind Marcel Johnen. That has been clearly communicated.”
Alemannia Aachen: Ex-Wattenscheider Lerche is a candidate
Backhaus would also like to sign a new striker. In December, Dennis Lerche, once a goalscorer for SG Wattenscheid 09 and most recently without a club, presented himself at the Tivoli. “He brings something that other strikers don’t have. That would be added value. If you sign this type of striker, you have to have a bit of imagination. Let’s see how he performs with us in the new year. In the end, it’s up to him,” says Backhaus.
The 28-year-old Lerche was kicked out of Wattenscheid in mid-October 2023 due to indiscipline. Perhaps he will get another chance in Aachen.
On the other hand, it will be difficult for Beyhan Ametov. According to RS information, he and Cas Peters are among the candidates who will be allowed to leave Aachen. In Peters’ case, however, only if Alemannia sign a new attacker. Perhaps Dennis Lerche.
The squad should be in place by January 12, the day of departure for the training camp in Turkey. “We will only take boys to Belek who have a valid contract,” emphasized Backhaus.
