Middle Rhine League soccer club Bonner SC has landed a big name. A 1990 world champion is the new coach of the BSC U17 team.
Jürgen Kohler becomes head coach of the U17 team of the Mittelrheinliga club Bonner SC!
“For me, it feels like coming home. I’m delighted to be back at Bonner SC,” explained Kohler at the presentation.
The 1990 World Cup winner last coached BSC’s U19 Bundesliga team in 2012. After spells in the senior section of VfL Alfter and at Viktoria Köln, the 58-year-old Kohler is now returning to Bonner SC.
“We are delighted with Jürgen’s arrival. He has opted for our project despite higher-class offers. Our entire department can only benefit from his outstanding professional expertise. Jürgen is also a great character,” said Deniz Bakir, head of youth development at Bonner SC.
Following the departure of U19 head coach Marcel Ndjeng to Borussia Mönchengladbach, Recep Kartal, previously coach of the U17s, has taken over the oldest youth team of the “Cubs”. “Recep has done a great job with the U17s and has absolutely earned this opportunity,” said Deniz Bakir. Kartal was in charge of the U17s for almost a year and a half.
In the past season, the team played in the top regions of the Mittelrheinliga table at all times. This created a vacancy that has now been filled with the arrival of the experienced soccer coach Kohler. Kohler is already looking forward to working with his new team, which will be competing in the Mittelrheinliga in the coming season. Kohler: “I’ve already been able to watch the boys in training. We definitely have some players with great potential. My aim next season will be to develop my players in terms of soccer and character. With the right willingness, I am convinced that we will have a great time together.”
