New signings are starting eleven candidates – Engin ahead of anniversary

Third division club MSV Duisburg want to get the new year off to a good start at 1860 Munich. On board: Daniel Ginczek and Ahmet Engin.

When MSV Duisburg visit 1860 Munich on Saturday afternoon (January 20, 4.30 pm), the two new winter signings will also be there.

With Daniel Ginczek (Fortuna Düsseldorf) and Ahmet Engin (Volos NPS/Greece), the relegation candidates have signed two experienced attacking players. Both players should significantly improve the quality of the MSV attack.

Ginczek brings with him a CV of 120 Bundesliga games (29 goals) and 121 appearances in the 2nd division (35 goals). He is an experienced, robust center forward with a good finish. However, the 32-year-old is also injury-prone and has hardly gained any match practice recently.

Engin has also had little match practice. The youngster from Moers only made eight appearances in the Greek Super League in the first half of the season. The winger has already played for Duisburg in the 2nd and 3rd leagues in the past. The 27-year-old, who wore the MSV jersey from 2011 to 2021, played a total of 149 competitive matches for the Zebras.

Both want to play and be on fire. Of course, we also have to take into account that they didn’t get as much competitive time last year. But they can definitely help us with their quality.

Boris Schommers

It is therefore quite possible that Engin will celebrate his anniversary at 1860 Munich with his 150th competitive match as an MSV Duisburg player. Both new signings are candidates to start on Saturday, even if head coach Boris Schommers did not want to make a final decision:

“Basically, they are fit. Both want to play and are on fire. Of course, we also have to bear in mind that they didn’t get as much competitive time last year. But they can definitely help us with their quality.”

The game in Munich marks the start of the English week. MSV will then face Hallescher FC (January 23, 7 p.m.) in a basement clash, before a visit to SSV Ulm 1846 four days later (January 27, 2 p.m.).

Looking ahead to the English week, Schommers explained: “We have three brutally important games, especially the first two against two direct rivals within 72 hours. We have to see who plays when. We want to put the team on the pitch that gives us the best possible chance of scoring points. We’ll get through it well. It’s nice that we have enough healthy players who have been involved in most of the preparation. “
