FC Schalke 04 has been fined again by the DFB. Borussia Dortmund must also pay.
Incidents surrounding the Revier derby against Borussia Dortmund (2:2) last March have an expensive aftermath for FC Schalke 04.
The sports court of the German Football Association (DFB) has fined the Schalke 04 team 98,000 euros. The reason for this is “unsportsmanlike conduct” by Schalke fans, according to a statement by the DFB.
Only a few days ago, the Revierklub was fined 18,000 euros. This was triggered by offences committed by supporters at the match against Eintracht Frankfurt in connection with pyrotechnics.
The use of prohibited fireworks is also the reason for the latest sanction. During the derby against BVB, fans burned a total of 78 pyrotechnic objects, according to the DFB. At the beginning of the match, a spectator was also injured in the eye by Bengalo splinters. She had to receive medical treatment at an eye clinic.
BVB: fine of 71,000 euros
BVB has also been fined for the behaviour of its supporters at the match. The Dortmund fans had also used pyrotechnics. The jacket of a journalist hit by a flare caught fire, but he escaped without injury thanks to the vigilant security service. The Dortmund fans have to pay 88,000 euros for this.
Now they will have to pay another 71,000 euros. This is because the DFB sanctions the ignition of 71 pyrotechnic objects at the season finale against Mainz with a fine of this amount.
In addition to Dortmund and Schalke, a sentence was also handed down against FC Bayern Munich on Thursday. At 41,000 euros, it is the lowest fine among the three clubs. Munich spectators had set off 44 pyrotechnic objects in the match at Werder Bremen on 6 May.
As usual, BVB, Schalke and Bayern can use one third of the sums for safety-related or violence-prevention measures. This must be proven to the association by the end of the year.
