Next home win for RWO – “We expected Wiedenbrück to be different”

Rot-Weiß Oberhausen won 3-1 (0-1) against SC Wiedenbrück on matchday 12 of the Regionalliga West, securing its fourth home win in a row.

The Niederrhein Stadium has once again become a real fortress. Rot-Weiß Oberhausen suffered its last defeat at home on matchday 3, losing 0-2 to MSV Duisburg. On matchday 12 of the Regionalliga West, RWO won 3-1 (0-1) against SC Wiedenbrück, securing its fourth home win in a row.

Kerem Yalcin (46th), Timur Kesim (50th) and Tarsis Bonga were on the scoresheet against Wiedenbrück. Jan Lukas Liehr (11th) had previously put the guests in the lead. RWO coach Sebastian Gunkel was happy with his team’s well-deserved three points.

“We expected Wiedenbrück to be a little different, I’ll be honest. In the first 15 to 20 minutes we had problems finding our space and conceded an early goal that was well finished. But after that we did well and used the space well. Even if we weren’t precise enough in the last third, we had one or two really good chances and could have gone into the break with a draw,” said Gunkel.

After the break, the Oberhausen team came back onto the field full of energy. Within six minutes, the “clover leaves” scored three goals and finally took the game in their favor. “What happened in the first few minutes of the second half is something you don’t see all that often,” revealed Gunkel. “Overall, we’re pretty satisfied.”

The guests from Wiedenbrück are still in a relegation spot after the defeat. Interim coach Tobias Brockschnieder’s team is in 16th place in the table with eight points.

“We got off to a good start and followed our plan well in the first few minutes. There’s no question that you’ll get chances against you in Oberhausen. We scored the goal from a situation that we’d been practicing all week in training and for which we were prepared. After half-time, six minutes were enough for three goals and after that, you have to honestly say that heads went down. The order was gone and apart from a long-range shot, we didn’t have any other chances. Oberhausen clearly deserved to win the game.”
