SG Wattenscheid 09 extend their winning streak. They won 3:1 in the catch-up match against Victoria Clarholz.
SG Wattenscheid 09 have taken the next step towards securing their place in the Oberliga Westfalen. SGW defeated Victoria Clarholz 3:1 (2:1) on Thursday evening in the catch-up match from matchday 14.
Coach Engin Yavuzaslan’s team thus continued the positive trend of recent weeks and made their home treble gold – it was the third success in the third game in a row at the Lohrheide. The traditional club climbed to a direct non-relegation place in the table – passing rivals Clarholz. (Read about the match in the live ticker)
After an opening phase characterized by a feeling-out process, Wattenscheid’s Jamal El Mansoury opened the scoring with his goal to make it 1:0 after 22 minutes. Serhat Kacmaz played a tailor-made ball from his own half, which the attacker finished strongly – first on the dribble, then with a finish through the legs of the Clarholz goalkeeper.
But the equalizer was not too long in coming. Wattenscheid’s defense allowed the visitors too much space for a cross. And Markus Baum was not decisively interrupted in the center either, allowing the defender to head in to make it 1:1 (34′).
Before the break, the 800 or so spectators in the Lohrheidestadion were able to celebrate the lead again. Nico Thier fed Umut Yildiz, who had run onto the ball. He scored flat into the left corner to make it 2:1 (41′).
After the break, Wattenscheid shifted their focus to defending and Clarholz pressed for a quick equalizer. However, they were not to succeed. And so the game lost a little of its tempo over the course of the second half. Wattenscheid became stronger again.
A major upset only occurred again after the final quarter of an hour. Substitute Berkan Firat only had to push the ball into the empty goal in the penalty area – but it hit the bottom edge of the crossbar (76′). According to the referee, the ball was not fully behind the line.
However, it was only a few minutes before Firat made up for his miss. He kept his cool in front of the opposing goal and slotted home to make it 3:1 (84′). The preliminary decision, as the score remained that way.
After the home treble, the Wattenscheid side will be challenged away from home again next matchday. They visit SpVgg Erkenschwick on Sunday (2 p.m., RS live ticker). Victoria Clarholz face another basement duel away from home. They travel to weakening TuS Bövinghausen (Sunday, 3 p.m., RS live ticker)
