Sportfreunde Lotte are continuing to step on the gas in the transfer market. Now a right winger from Fortuna Köln is arriving – and he brings a lot of experience with him.
Kevin Holzweiler will wear the jersey of Sportfreunde Lotte with immediate effect. This was announced by the promoted regional league team on Wednesday, June 5. The 29-year-old right winger last played for future league rivals Fortuna Köln.
“In Kevin, we’re getting an absolute top player for the Regionalliga West, who is particularly good at soccer and one-on-one,” said a delighted Holzweiler’s future coach Fabian Lübbers.
The SFL coach also explained: “He is also technically very adept and has a good finish on goal.” Holzweiler made 186 appearances in the Regionalliga West (30 goals, 26 assists) and also played 69 times in the 3rd division (three goals, ten assists). Holzweiler himself is also looking forward to the blue and whites: “This is a nice new challenge for me. I’ve often played here with Viktoria and RWE and I like the club.”
Keyword RWE: Kevin Holzweiler was under contract with Rot-Weiss Essen from 2021 to 2023 and was involved in their promotion to the 3rd division. Holzweiler brings with him the experience of 69 games (three goals, ten assists) for Viktoria Köln and RWE from Germany’s third-highest division.
The 29-year-old was trained in the youth ranks of Bundesliga club Borussia Mönchengladbach, for whose second team he also played in the Regionalliga West. In total, Holzweiler has played 186 games in the Regionalliga (30 goals, 26 assists).
Sportfreunde Lotte’s transfer offensive continues this week. Previously, Lotte had already presented Tubay Gündogen and Florian Wendt. Nico Thier from SG Wattenscheid 09 followed on Tuesday. “Nico is a box-to-box player with an absolute mentality and brutal footballing quality,” said a delighted Lübbers about the new signing, who will feed former Essen player Holzweiler with passes in the future, among other things.
