MSV Duisburg has presented its sixth external addition. He knows the Regionalliga very well.
On April 16, Forecasting already reported that MSV Duisburg was interested in Mert Göckan.
Now the deal has been finalized. The left-back moves to MSV from regional league club Wuppertaler SV – he is the sixth external signing for the “Zebras”.
Duisburg’s sporting director Chris Schmoldt emphasizes: “Mert was one of the best full-backs in the league last season. He is strong in defensive duels and always creates danger offensively with his speed runs. As a footballer, he grew up in Dortmund under top conditions – we are very happy that Mert has decided to play for the club.”
He made 27 appearances for WSV last season, scoring one goal and setting up six. In total, he has already made 102 appearances in the Regionalliga.
He will make his 103rd appearance in MSV kit. His anticipation is palpable: “When MSV approached me and we held talks with Michael Preetz, Chris Schmoldt and Dietmar Hirsch, I was thrilled from the start. I’m really looking forward to the start of the season and believe that we can achieve a lot together with the support of the fans!”
MSV coach Hirsch reports on his latest addition: “Mert is very well trained at Borussia Dortmund and has proven in the Regionalliga West how he interprets the left-back position: As a very hard-working, strong-running player who also prepares goals. He knows the league, is keen to play for the club and will certainly help us further!”
