Next new signing will not be fit again until the end of the year

Another new signing for 1. FC Düren: The regional league club has signed a player who is currently still injured at the cruciate ligament.

After the first two match days in the Regionalliga West, 1. FC Düren has made another transfer. However, those responsible are not hoping for short-term reinforcements from this signing.

Romeo Aigbekaen is a young talent who is still suffering from the consequences of a cruciate ligament rupture. The 19-year-old last played for the A Juniors of the third division club Viktoria Köln. He suffered the serious injury last May.

“Romeo is an investment in the future,” explains coach Boris Schommers in a club statement, “and with his potential, a player who could join the fight for the regular spots from the end of the year.”

Aigbekaen can be deployed on both attacking flanks and brings a lot of pace to the Westkampfbahn. The German-Nigerian spent his first U19 year with 1. FC Köln. Last summer, he then moved to the city’s neighbours.

Aigbekaen was one of the regulars for Viktoria, whose U19s play in the Bundesliga West. He played 13 of a possible 15 games and scored four goals. The youngster also set up two other goals.

Now he will have to watch from the stands to see how his new club performs in the Regionalliga. After the 2:1 against Borussia Mönchengladbach II and the 2:2 against Schalke II, Düren will host SV Rödinghausen next Saturday (2 pm, RS-Liveticker).
