Last year, Alaa Bakir missed large parts of the season with a meniscus tear. Now he has to have another operation on his meniscus and will miss MSV Duisburg.
Alaa Bakir joined MSV Duisburg from Borussia Dortmund II in 2021 with high hopes. Born in Münster, he had previously worked his way up through the youth teams to the second team with strong performances and also played a major role in Dortmund U23’s championship and promotion to the third division in the 2020/21 season with four goals and twelve assists in 39 regional league appearances.
He then decided to make the jump to the Zebras. There, however, Bakir had to deal with setbacks time and again. While the 22-year-old made 35 appearances across all competitions in his debut season at the Wedaustadion, scoring five goals and providing seven assists, he only made 15 appearances last year (two goals, three assists). He missed a large part of the season with a meniscus tear and subsequent persistent knee problems.
After six appearances in the third division and two games in the Lower Rhine Cup at the start of the current season (without scoring), the next serious setback now follows. The man with Jordanian roots missed Saturday’s match against Rot-Weiss Essen (1:2) due to knee problems. However, further examinations have now revealed that Bakir will have to undergo meniscus surgery. This was announced by the club on Tuesday, October 31. MSV have not yet given an exact time of absence.
Pusch absent with gastrointestinal complaints
However, the attacking midfielder is not the only one Boris Schommers had to do without at the start of the training week on Tuesday. Niklas Kölle (shoulder injury), Dennis Smarsch (patellar tendon problems), Marvin Bakalorz (ankle problems), Pascal Köpke and Tim Köther (both knee problems) were also still unable to take part. Kolja Pusch also had to miss out due to a stomach bug.
The Zebras’ next match is scheduled for Sunday (1.30 pm). Boris Schommers will then make his next attempt at his first points as MSV coach at Waldhof Mannheim
