On the last matchday of the Landesliga Niederrhein 2, there is a city derby on which VfB Frohnhausen still hangs the relegation. However, it is not in their own hands.
In the Landesliga Niederrhein 2, both decisions have been made at the top. SF Niederwenigern have been promoted to the Oberliga Niederrhein after a 3:1 win at VfB Speldorf – just like 1. FC Monheim in the parallel league.
Niederwenigern had to turn around an early 0:1 deficit in Mülheim. Anil Özgen had put VfB ahead. However, a brace from Marc Rapka before and after the change turned the game around. Sergej Strahl sealed the championship with a penalty in stoppage time.
The rest was pure jubilation. SV Biemenhorst secured second place with a 2:1 win at SV Scherpenberg; Biemenhorst now have the chance to make up for their promotion in the relegation play-off.
Things are even tighter in the basement of the table. Sterkrade-Nord, SV Hönnepel-Niedermörmter and FSV Duisburg have been relegated. VfB Frohnhausen, on the other hand, continues to fight against relegation to the Bezirksliga.
They recorded a 3:2 away win at 1. FC Lintfort. After Emirhan Karaca made it 0:1, Issa Said and Issa Issa (2) turned the game around for the team from Essen. The 2:3 by Luca Plum was only cosmetic.
Following SpVgg Steele 03/09’s 5:1 win over FSV Duisburg and SGE Bedburg-Hau’s 2:4 loss at Arminia Klosterhardt, the picture ahead of the final matchday is as follows.
Frohnhausen, Steele and Bedburg-Hau are fighting against relegation. One relegated team is still being sought, as well as a relegation contender and a team that secures direct relegation.
Frohnhausen will play FC Kray in a city derby on the final matchday (Sunday, June 2, 3 p.m.). Steele must travel to SV Budberg and Bedburg-Hau will host SG Essen-Schönebeck. If Steele and Bedburg-Hau lose and Frohnhausen wins, all three teams will have 37 points. If Steele and Bedburg-Hau score, Frohnhausen can no longer save themselves.
If all teams end up with 37 points, there would be a deciding game between this trio, as the goal difference does not count in the Landesliga.
