Nine-goal gala in the Westphalia Cup – Regional league team without a chance

SG Wattenscheid 09 did not disappoint in the second round of the Westphalia Cup. They secured a 9-1 victory against regional league team Borussia Dröschede.

The Westphalia Cup had a few surprises in store in the second round. For example, regional league teams Sportfreunde Siegen and SV Rödinghausen were both surprisingly knocked out. Oberliga team SG Wattenscheid 09, on the other hand, did not disappoint.

For regional league team Borussia Dröschede, the cup fever only lasted for the first eleven minutes. Then coach Christopher Pache’s team got serious. Kevin Schacht (12th minute), Jermaine Jann (16th minute), and Schacht again (20th minute) sealed the deal within eight minutes. And Wattenscheid showed no mercy. Ilias Anan (27th and 34th minutes) added to the tally, sending the Oberliga team into the break with a 5-0 lead. At least Akin Ackigöz managed to make the result look a little better for the Landesliga team after 58 minutes. Finn Wortmann, on the other hand, was not willing to leave it at that. Just five minutes after coming on as a substitute, Wortmann noticed that Dröschede’s goalkeeper Max Tillmann was standing well off his line. He beat the keeper from 35 meters to make it 6-1 (67th minute). Just ten minutes later, Duran Deniz made it 7-1 (77th minute), before Wortmann (84th minute) and Robert Nnaji (88th minute) sealed the 9-1 final score. Needless to say, SGW deservedly advanced to the third round of the Westphalia Cup. In contrast to other supposed favorites, coach Pache’s team performed very confidently.
