On match day 18 of the Regionalliga West, SG Wattenscheid 09 and SC Preußen Münster parted with 4:5 (1:4). The coaches of both teams saw a wild game.
The madness in the Lohrheide stadium continues. Just like the last home game against Fortuna Düsseldorf’s U23, the match on matchday 18 of the Regionalliga West against SC Preußen Münster will go down in the history books.
After a memorable match, SG Wattenscheid 09 lost 4:5 (1:4) in injury time in front of 2709 spectators.
After the first half, Wattenscheid was already trailing 1:4. Despite the dismissal of SGW striker Dennis Lerche, Wattenscheid were able to catch up in the second half and score 4:4 in the meantime, only to concede the all-important goal in the last second of injury time.
A total of three goals were scored from the penalty spot. All information on the game can be found here.
The away win allowed Münster to extend their lead at the top of the table. SCP head coach Sascha Hildmann was relieved after his team’s late winning goal.
I think if you had to analyse the whole game, we would still be sitting here tomorrow because just so much happened.
Sascha Hildmann
“I think if you had to analyse the whole game, we would still be sitting here tomorrow because so much happened. We put in a good performance in the first half and took the lead with our first chance. That’s what we set out to do. We go into the break with a 4:1 lead and you think it can’t get any better than that,” Hildmann summed up at the press conference afterwards.
“At the beginning of the second half we changed because of a yellow card, because we didn’t want to take any risks. Then, right after the change of ends, we get a penalty against us because we don’t clear the ball properly and get ourselves into trouble. Then the game picked up again and Wattenscheid became stronger and stronger. After that, they made it 4:4 and came back late, just like in the past two games. Fortunately, we were able to put the finishing touches on this match and win the game 5:4,” the Münster coach continued.
That’s the bad thing, but at the same time the beautiful thing about this sport and that’s why we love it so much.
Christian Britscho
On the home side, Wattenscheid head coach Christian Britscho went through a rollercoaster of emotions, as he had in previous weeks. According to Britscho, the fact that the visitors were able to win the game after all was thanks to the individual class of the Preußen players.
“We would have more than deserved this point. Football can be that schizophrenic. In the past two weeks, we wouldn’t even have deserved dirt under our fingernails and still managed to get six points. Against Münster, I think we would have deserved everything, but at the end of the day we’re left with nothing, but that’s football. That’s the bad thing, but at the same time the beautiful thing about this sport and that’s why we love it so much. We will definitely be back and I thank you for the support,” Britscho said after the narrow defeat against the league leaders.
