SC Paderborn has strengthened its attacking midfield one week before the start of the second half of the 2nd Bundesliga.
It is now well known in the industry that SC Paderborn has been happy to strengthen itself with highly talented regional league players for years. And the East Westphalians have once again underlined their philosophy with their latest signing.
The 22-year-old Niclas Nadj, son of the former Paderborn professional Tibor Nadj (1998 to 2000, editor’s note), moves to the Pader with immediate effect from the regional league team SC Weiche 08 Flensburg and receives a long-term contract with the second division team.
In the summer of 2009, the creative midfielder joined FC St. Pauli’s youth team from Blau-Weiß 96 Schenefeld, where he received excellent training until the summer of 2022.
Niclas is a playful attacking midfielder who has excellent assets. He is technically adept and can operate very well between the lines. We will support him in the best possible way so that he gets used to the level in the 2nd Bundesliga as quickly as possible.
Benjamin Weber, Paderborn’s sports director
At SC Weiche 08, the 1.78-metre midfielder immediately advanced to become a regular player and collected nine scorer points (two goals, seven assists) in 18 championship games in the 2022/2023 first leg.
“Niclas is a playful attacking midfielder who has excellent assets. He is technically adept and can operate very well between the lines. We will support him in the best possible way so that he gets used to the level in the 2nd Bundesliga as quickly as possible,” said SCP Managing Director Sport Benjamin Weber. Nadj trained with his new teammates for the first time on Friday.
Perhaps he will also get his first second league minutes next Friday, 27 January, 6.30 pm. That’s when Paderborn coach Lukas Kwasniok’s team plays host to Karlsruher SC in the second half of the 2nd Bundesliga. At the halfway point of the season, Paderborn are in sixth place with 27 points and are within striking distance of the promotion places. They are currently six points behind third place.
