Second division side Fortuna Düsseldorf have won the tug of war for their jewel Jona Niemiec.
After last weekend’s 5:2 win at Hansa Rostock, Fortuna Düsseldorf celebrated another victory: the second-division club has won the tug-of-war for its striker jewel Jona Niemiec.
RevierSport had already reported that Niemiec had a lucrative four-year contract ready to sign in Düsseldorf. According to Bild-Infos, the 21-year-old attacker has accepted the contract, which, according to Bild, runs until the summer of 2026. According to RS-Infos, this is a three-year contract plus an option for another season.
After Niemiec’s rapid development, Fortuna had to dig deeper than planned to keep the former TSG Sprockhövel attacker in the state capital.
Clubs such as Rot-Weiss Essen, FC Zurich and PEC Zwolle were also keen on the German-Polish player. However, Niemiec has now turned down all offers and made a commitment to Fortuna.
Fortuna Düsseldorf: Niemiec to earn up to 250,000 euros per season
A very pleasant promise from a financial point of view. Because Niemiec, according to “Bild”, is to earn up to 250,000 euros gross, including bonuses, in Düsseldorf from 1 July 2023.
The contract extension of the arrow-fast Niemiec – in the match against Gladbach II, the striker was “flashed” at 36.4 km/h, only Dortmund’s Karim Adeyemi (36.65 km/h) and Leverkusen’s Moussa Diaby (36.52 km/h) have been measured faster in German professional football – should also please Niemiec’s supporter Nico Michaty, coach of Fortuna Düsseldorf II.
Michaty recently told RevierSport: “I have a lot of confidence in Jona Niemiec. He has that certain something. Until his move to Düsseldorf, he had never been to a youth training centre and plays very carefree. He has the speed that is difficult to train, and his enormous speed is complemented by his power. When he has space and can develop, he is almost unstoppable. He has made a great development at Fortuna Düsseldorf.”
The player himself now emphasises after his signing: “The Fortuna officials have made it possible for me to take my first steps in professional football in recent weeks. I will always be grateful to the club for that. With my first professional contract, they are now showing me further confidence. I’m eager to repay it in the coming weeks, months and years. “
