“No need to motivate anyone!” – After initial crisis, the Herne derby

After a flawless start to the season in the Westfalenliga, DSC Wanne-Eickel has overcome its first crisis in terms of results. Coach Davide Basile is eagerly looking forward to the derby at Westfalia Herne.

Four games, four wins – that was DSC Wanne-Eickel’s record in the Westfalenliga. However, after ten match days, the club has experienced its first “crisis” and is now in fifth place with 18 points.

“We know that we may lose a game or two in the near future. Then we’ll have to see how good we really are when we have to come back after setbacks.” That’s how coach Davide Basile summed up DSC Wanne-Eickel’s great start to the season. No sooner said than done – the team suffered three defeats in its last four games, most recently against bottom-of-the-table SpVg. Hagen, but at least it was another 2-0 win. “What we feared has come to pass to some extent,” said the coach, looking back on the past games. “But we showed the right response against Hagen and passed the character test.”

It should not be forgotten that in recent years, Wanne-Eickel fought to the bitter end to avoid relegation – something Basile wants to avoid this year. “We are currently on target, with 18 points already. We want to play a calmer season and continue to get as many points as possible.”

Staying in the league is the top priority – new goals in winter?

Could there possibly be more? The coach is still holding back a little. “We’ll just see where we stand during the winter break. Then we can analyze the situation and adjust our goals if necessary.“

Next up for DSC is the derby against Westfalia Herne. It’s a big game for Basile. ”It’s the derby for the city of Herne, and people used to live for it. Today, the crowds are certainly not as big as they used to be, but it’s still very important to us.”

In training, every player wants to win every competition. If we show that in the derby too, I think we have a good chance.

After the 2-0 win over Hagen, the next victory is also to be achieved there. “We want to win every game, especially a derby. We don’t need to motivate anyone. In training, every player wants to win every competition. If we show that in the derby too, I think we have a good chance.”

Westfalia Herne is still undefeated at home and will host DSC Wanne-Eickel on Sunday (October 19). Kickoff at EDEKA Koch Sportpark is at 3:30 p.m.
