After the 1:4 defeat against VfB Stuttgart, the players of VfL Bochum asked themselves how this could happen. They could not find a real answer.
The players of VfL Bochum were stunned. Nobody could explain how the basement duel at VfB Stuttgart was lost 1:4 despite a decent performance. Kevin Stöger and captain Anthony Losilla were accordingly frustrated.
“Everyone who saw the game saw a good game from us,” Stöger expressed his anger and disappointment. “Even though it is of course difficult when you concede four goals here.” Like everyone who thinks the same of VfL, he mourned Gerrit Holtmann’s huge chance to equalise in the 60th minute. “If we do that, it’s a wide-open game. Stuttgart were unsettled and already played for time in the first half. “
The 29-year-old was correspondingly critical of the performance of the referee Christian Dingert. “It’s simply difficult when Stuttgart take a minute for every throw-in. Then you also wish a little bit that the referee would stop that.” The main responsibility, however, lies with the team itself.
“We started the game very badly, but then showed that we still don’t give up as a team. That’s definitely not how a relegated team plays.” Captain Losilla agreed: “It’s a very bitter defeat because we were the better team on the pitch for a long time. I still can’t believe we lost the game 4:1.”
The defeat means Bochum remain bottom of the table, while VfB Stuttgart have gained some breathing space and climbed to 14th. The 2nd round of the DFB Cup is on the agenda this week, with VfL travelling to third division side SV Elversberg (Tuesday, 18 October, 20:45, RS-Liveticker) before leaders Union Berlin come to Castroper Straße on Sunday (23 October, 15:30).
