No support – fans’ opinion is clear – headwind for RWE Ultras

The fans of Rot-Weiss Essen – apart from the Ultras – are pretty unanimous when it comes to the Ultras and the denial of support against RWO.

In the Lower Rhine Cup final between Rot-Weiss Essen and Rot-Weiß Oberhausen (3:0), there was a special feature.

The RWE Ultras did not make an appearance. They were in the stadium, but there was no organized support. Why? Opinions differed on that.

On the one hand, there is the reason that the relationship between the Ultras and the club is strained. On the other hand, there were voices saying that the Ultras had given the cup as a reason for refusing to support.

However, there will be no repetition of this in the coming season, as the Ultras are also planning unrestricted support in the national cup.

A discussion has now arisen as to whether the Ultras at RWE are dispensable or not. Discussions about this have been raging on the Forecasting website, in the forums and also in our poll, in which we wanted to know whether the Ultras should make a quick comeback or not.

The opinion here is pretty clear. Most participants in the survey do not need the Ultras in the Essen stadium. As of 5 p.m., almost 77 per cent were of the opinion that they could do without the organized support of the Ultra groups.

In most cases, they claim that the club comes first. Although this can at least be questioned when you consider what the misconduct of the fans (keyword pyrotechnics) costs the club and when other things are more important than the support in a final in which almost 350,000 euros are at stake for RWE.

“The main thing is that they pay the entrance fee. Otherwise, the kind of behavior I only know from my little son…”, writes one RS user. Another says: “Nobody misses them. Except themselves, because it’s all about self-expression for them. Gladly again…”.

Although opinions also differ somewhat. Because while many visitors on Saturday were of the opinion that the support in the stadium was similar or better, at least more individual, there are also many voices that strongly doubt this.

For example, RWO captain Moritz Stoppelkamp, who thought that at times you could only hear the Oberhausen fans. One user also thinks: “To be honest, the atmosphere was much worse today! But I would be happy if these damn self-promoters would stay outside permanently.”

This is certainly the direction 90 percent of the posts are going in, the tenor: Those who are for the club will not let it down in such an important match and ensure that almost 75,000 euros in fines have to be paid in one season.

It remains exciting to see how the issue of Ultras at Rot-Weiss Essen will develop. The opinion of most spectators seems clear…
