After the 1-1 draw between Fortuna Köln and Rot-Weiß Oberhausen, one coach in particular was disappointed with the draw.
The score was 1-1 after 90 minutes between Fortuna Köln and Rot-Weiß Oberhausen. After Fortuna took the lead through Dustin Wilms (25th), Sven Kreyer equalised just ten minutes later. In the second half, there were chances on both sides, but neither team scored the winning goal.
For Fortuna coach Markus von Ahlen, a disappointing result: “I think it was the expected intensive, good regional league game. We had really good chances after the lead and had to make it 2:0. We have to give ourselves credit for that. We were careless once and Oberhausen took advantage of that ice-cold. I think we also had a clear advantage after half-time. But there, too, we lacked the necessary precision. The performance was okay, but we’re not satisfied with the result. “
Satisfied shamrocks after point win
While von Ahlen was not happy with the outcome of the match, RWO coach Mike Terranova was satisfied with the game: “I think we saw a decent Regionalliga match between two teams that are below their expectations. We weren’t determined at the start and needed a goal against until we woke up. Then it was decent from our side and thankfully we equalised before half-time.”
The RWO legend was particularly happy with the second 45 minutes: “In the second half, both sides wanted the win, invested a lot. But we also had to be careful, especially after standards, not to concede a goal. We certainly could have converted one of our attacks. In the end, the point is fine. “
At the end of the press conference, Terranova also had a few words to say about Fortuna Cologne’s season so far. With nine points from eight games, they are still in first place in the relegation zone, but have played one game less than their rivals: “Fortuna are not playing a bad season. They could have won just as well against Wattenscheid and Lippstadt, they just didn’t have the luck. I hope they get that in the course of the season, and then both teams, both you and us, will definitely settle in the top third.”
Fortuna Köln’s league campaign continues next weekend, when an away game at 1. FC Bocholt awaits (Saturday, 24 September, 2pm). Rot-Weiß Oberhausen will take a break in the Regionalliga, as the important Niederrheinpokal match against MSV Duisburg is coming up (Friday, 23 September, 7 p.m.).
