Borussia Dortmund II remained without a win for the third game in a row. They only managed a 1:1 draw against newly promoted VfB Lübeck.
Things are not going according to plan for the second team of Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund. The BVB youngsters were held to a 1-1 draw by basement club VfB Lübeck. The Dortmund U23 team has only managed one win in its last seven matches.
And yet: Borussia are tenth and currently have an eight-point lead over the first relegation spot, which is occupied by the promoted team from Lübeck.
“We were a touch too slow in possession and didn’t manage to play deep as quickly as we wanted to. Nevertheless, we took the lead through a set-piece. We simply have to be able to win a game like that with a clean sheet. To be honest, Lübeck didn’t manage much. They played very deep and defended intensively – and still scored. We still lack the maturity to manage a lead like that,” said Jan Zimmermann.
The BVB II coach didn’t want to moan because of the many injured players: “Of course we lacked a lot of quality. But I don’t want to make excuses. Even if we were missing players like Justin Butler, Paul Besong or Michael Eberwein in a game like this.”
