Northern club signs former Schalke U23 captain

The die-hard fans of FC Schalke 04 may still remember a player named Sebastian Hertner. He was once captain of the U23 team.

FC Teutonia 05 Ottensen has signed Sebastian Hertner, a defender who was previously out of contract. This was officially announced by the Hamburg Nord-Regionalligist.

The left-back, who has been without an employer since 1 July 2021, also played for FC Schalke 04’s U23 team in the 2012/2013 season. Hertner captained the S04 reserves in 35 appearances and was a key component.

Most recently, the 31-year-old Hertner played for BFC Dynamo and missed out on the 3rd division with the Berliners last summer in the promotion relegation against VfB Oldenburg. Previously, he played for SV Darmstadt, Erzgebirge Aue and 1860 Munich, among others. In total, Hertner has the experience of 95 games in the 2nd Bundesliga, 122 appearances in the 3rd Liga and 59 matches in the Regionalliga.

Teutonia coach David Bergner is looking forward to Sebastian Hertner: “We were able to ideally fill the still open squad spot in the defence with the signing of Sebastian. He brings a lot of experience from several appearances in the 2nd Bundesliga and 3rd Liga and will be able to help us immediately. We are very pleased that Sebastian has decided to join us.”

The Hamburg side, Ottensen is a district of the Hanseatic city, are in 14th place in the Regionalliga Nord table after ten matchdays with twelve points. Bergner’s team has been without a win for four games. Now Hertner is supposed to help stop the negative trend.
