VfB Oldenburg is still looking for a new coach. Joe Enochs will definitely not succeed Dario Fossi.
Coach candidate Joe Enochs has turned down third-division football club VfB Oldenburg because he did not want to move to a direct competitor of his ex-club after parting ways with FSV Zwickau. The 51-year-old confirmed this in an interview with the Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung. “I just don’t have a good feeling about it,” the ex-Zwickau coach said, elaborating:
“I find it hard to imagine going into a tough relegation battle with Zwickau as my opponents after almost five years at Zwickau, where I felt comfortable and enjoyed working.”
Enochs was released as coach of current table-18 FSV Zwickau in February. At table-19 VfB Oldenburg, promotion coach Dario Fossi was forced to leave last Sunday after they suffered their fourth defeat in their sixth second-round match against MSV Duisburg (2:3).
Enochs admitted that he had already been in contact with Oldenburg’s sporting director Sebastian Schachten last week. But: “It didn’t even get to the point where there was a concrete offer. It just didn’t fit for me,” said the American.
Enochs spent more than 20 years as a player, youth and head coach at VfL Osnabrück until his move to Zwickau. The north-west rivals are VfB Oldenburg’s next opponents on Saturday. One thing is clear: Joe Enochs will not be coaching the opponents at Bremer Brücke then. According to RS-Infos, Christian Benbennek is a hot candidate to succeed Dario Fossi.
