Rot-Weiß Oberhausen couldn’t score in the postponed game at Borussia Mönchengladbach. Not enough for RWO’s ambitions.
The game between Borussia Mönchengladbach II and Rot-Weiß Oberhausen could finally be played successfully at the fourth attempt. In the end, no goals were scored.
The game began with a moment of shock: after just three minutes of play, it went quiet in the Grenzlandstadion. Julian Korb remained in the center circle after a tackle. The former professional had apparently suffered a head injury. Fortunately, Korb got up again – but a substitution was unavoidable. Noah Andreas replaced the 31-year-old Korb.
Unbelievable but true: Just a few minutes later, in the 10th minute, Mika Schroers had to go off injured – Cagatay Kader replaced the attacker.
What the two teams offered in the first half was low-fat football. There were hardly any shots on target – and when there were, they clearly missed their targets. It was a fair goalless draw at half-time.
And the second half began promisingly: Jacob Italiano (49th minute) was allowed to run unchallenged onto the RWO box and shot from around 16 meters, the ball rolled just a few centimeters past the right goalpost, goalkeeper Robin Benz would not have come into the corner in time. The biggest opportunity of the game so far belonged to Gladbach.
RWO finally created a dangerous opportunity: Christian März (59′) tried it from distance, his shot was deflected and only just missed the target – it was a close-run thing.
RWO pressed in the final phase with a man advantage – Tony Reitz saw yellow-red – and also got good chances. Gladbach’s goalkeeper Maximilian Brüll made a brilliant save in the 85th minute – against Michel Niemeyer – and in the 87th minute – against Moritz Stoppelkamp – and ultimately held the 0-0 for the Borussia youngsters. Not enough for Oberhausen. Rot-Weiß wanted to get to the top with two wins in the postponed matches – so it will be difficult.
