Not just at the end of the season – coach of cellar child leaves immediately

An early coach’s farewell in the Landesliga Niederrhein 1: A promoted team threatened by relegation is parting ways with its coach.

ASV Mettmann’s time in the Landesliga Niederrhein 1 will probably be limited to just one year for the time being. The promoted team is in second-to-last place in the table and 13 points behind the drop zone. There should be a fresh start with a new coach in the summer.

However, this is already taking place. The club and coach Daniele Varveri have parted ways early. The 42-year-old had been on the ASV sidelines since November 2019 and led the team to promotion last season. It was already clear that he would leave after the current season.

Now, however, he is leaving Mettmann immediately. Sebastian Pichura, who was in charge at league rivals SV Wermelskirchen until August, also in the relegation battle, will take over. He will make his debut next Sunday. The team will visit fourth-placed VfB Hilden II.

ASV bid an emotional farewell to previous coach Varveri. “Your presence enriched our team not only in sporting terms, but also emotionally. Your words have motivated us, your actions have inspired us and your smile has given us strength,” the club wrote on Facebook. “The memories of our victories together, but also of the defeats, will remain in our hearts forever. You were not only our coach, but also a mentor, a friend and a role model. “

The Italian echoed the warm words in the comments. “When you’ve been at a club for so many years and experienced so many things together, it’s all the more difficult to say goodbye. I even find it difficult to choose the word ‘club’ in this text because it really should be ‘family’,” he replied in a comment. “The warm-heartedness of all the people and the way this club (family) has been lived has made me give my last sweat day after day to make these people happy.”

And he encouraged the Red & Whites, who are deep in the relegation battle, for the future: “ASV is a special club with special people and I can only hope that things will now pick up again. If any club can climb back up from a deep valley, it’s ASV. “
