Can Uzun has scored twice for 1. FC Nürnberg against Hertha BSC, breaking an age-old second division record. It had previously been held by an ex-RWE player for decades.
In the second division top match between Hertha BSC and 1. FC Nürnberg on Saturday, March 30, the just 18-year-old Can Uzun once again enchanted the spectators. In the 47th minute, he dribbled into the Hertha penalty area, left several opponents standing and then scored into the near corner to make it 3:1 for the “Club”.
In the end, it was not enough to win the game, as Hertha made it 3:3 within two minutes – the final score. Uzun scored his 14th and 15th goals in the second division, setting a new record in the process. He is the youngest player ever to achieve this.
In fact, there is only one other player who has reached this mark at the age of 18, as “kicker” points out. In the 1982/83 season, Jürgen Wegmann also scored 15 times – for Rot-Weiss Essen. However, he was 207 days older than Uzun, who was 18 years and 140 days old on Saturday.
Wegmann is now 60 years old and has played for almost all the big clubs in the Ruhr region: Borussia Dortmund and FC Schalke 04 are on his CV, as is MSV Duisburg. He was also under contract with FC Bayern Munich from 1987 to 1989.
It remains to be seen where Uzun will end up. The Regensburg native confirmed to Sport1 that he will transfer in the summer: “We’ll see what happens. Something will definitely happen.”
Most recently, Eintracht Frankfurt was considered the hottest candidate to sign Uzun. Sport Bild even reported that Uzun had already undergone a medical check. “Nothing has been decided yet,” he denied
He will definitely set another record. After all, the most expensive Nuremberg departure of all time is Josip Drmic, who fetched ten million euros in the summer of 2015. Uzun is now already listed with a market value of twelve million euros. And with every goal he scores, he is likely to become even more valuable and therefore more expensive
