MSV Duisburg is starting this season with a fan team in the Kreisliga C.
Third-division soccer club MSV Duisburg will also be represented in amateur soccer starting this season. Under the leadership of coach Daniel Fischer, they now want to implement an idea they have been planning for years and start in the Kreisliga C.
The players were already selected in October, after several sighting sessions and intensive training. In total, there were over 70 applicants. The squad is now in place, but all players will not be available to Fischer for the start.
Defender Dennis van de Wetering suffered a knee injury during the last test match and is expected to be out for the rest of the year. The other players are all ready for action.
The coach remains optimistic: “Yes, I’m very pleased and have the fullest confidence in the team.” The approach is basically like any other team, but with the difference that “everyone lives for the club and is proud to wear the zebra on their chest.”
The district league represents a completely new challenge for Fischer and his team. However, the coach considers it an experience to build a team from scratch. He told the WAZ: “I’ve never experienced it like this before. From this comes a remarkable will.”
Striking: the gap in age, there are very young players, the oldest player is already over 60. And also the squad size (over 30 players in the lineup) is rare in the district league C. This shows that we are dealing with a somewhat different team.
Which, however, still pursues ambitious goals: “The league is very balanced, but we still want to end up in front in the upper third. We’ll see what’s feasible and how far we can get. “
I think we can expect an atmosphere that is not common for the league.
Daniel Fischer
The opening derby against BSV Beeck 05 (August 13, 3 p.m.) is coming up. Fischer gives his assessment of the upcoming match: “I think we can expect an atmosphere that is not common for the league. The opponent is an absolute surprise packet. Especially because he is a relegated team and there you absolutely do not know what to expect.”
The coach is confident going into the first game: “The bottom line is that we have to fulfill our tasks, I’m quite confident.” There are no special preparations for the game, except that the team will meet a little earlier to acclimatize.
The coach hopes for positive feedback from the spectators, who should “experience real soccer with passion and heart.” He is convinced that the fans will appreciate the commitment and dedication of his team.
The idea of offering Zebra fans this unique opportunity had been discussed for several years. It took time to implement, but Fischer and his team are now ready for the start of the season.
