Borussia Dortmund’s second team is on a strong run in the third division. Ole Pohlmann, one of the top scorers in the 3rd division, stands out in Jan Zimmermann’s team.
Three assists against SC Verl – Borussia Dortmund II won 5:2 – and most recently three goals at Spielvereinigung Unterhaching – the BVB youngsters won 4:3: that’s Ole Pohlmann’s tally.
The 22-year-old attacking midfielder is making a major contribution to coach Jan Zimmermann’s team currently occupying 4th place in the table. Further Pohlmann figures prove this: 23 games, nine goals, eight assists – making the Minden native one of the top three scorers in the 3rd division.
Only Jannik Mause (FC Ingolstadt) with 21 scorer points (17 goals, four assists) is even better. Oliver Batista Maier (SC Verl/Dynamo Dresden) also has 18 scorer points (9/9).
Forecasting spoke to Pohlmann, who is still under contract in Dortmund until June 30, 2025, ahead of Sunday’s clash at MSV Duisburg.
Ole Pohlmann, three assists in the previous week and now three goals of your own: What is it that is currently making BVB II and you personally so strong?
We simply have an incredible run at the moment. We’ve picked up a lot of points from the last few weeks and played some great games. We’ve shown where we belong – and that’s in the top half of the table. We always believe in ourselves and have really grown together as a team. I myself try to help the team every week. I appreciate the trust placed in me by the coach and the team. I know about my qualities and know how to use them well. But the team also helps me a lot. We’re on a roll as a team at the moment and I’m also benefiting from that.
5:2 against Verl, 4:3 in Unterhaching: Does BVB II like such crazy games?
As a neutral observer, those are the coolest games. In this league, every game can go in a different direction. You can never predict the result. We lead 3:0 against Verl, are lucky not to get the 3:3 and then win 5:2. In Haching we are behind three times and win 4:3 – those are of course always highly emotional games.
Dortmund are currently in fourth place. How bitter do you and your colleagues find it that a second team is not allowed to move up to Bundesliga 2? Or do you even approve of it as a soccer fan? I know what it’s like when you’re playing for promotion. We were in the same situation last season. It’s not easy.
Your contract runs until the summer of 2025. Could we still see you one level higher next season?
Hope never dies. I will always have the dream of playing in the Bundesliga. That is simply my big goal. I give it my all every week, whether in training or in matches. I try to get the best out of it for the team and for myself. We all want to draw attention to ourselves. If we are successful, then every single one of us benefits.
BVB II now travel to MSV Duisburg – are you surprised to see where MSV are in the table?
We know that it will be a very difficult game. The first leg wasn’t clear-cut either. But, of course, we want to take the three points back to Dortmund and continue to bite at the top
