The English Premier League paid tribute to Queen Elizabeth II at its matches this weekend. This was also the case at the match between Brentford FC and Arsenal FC. The two coaches, Thomas Frank and Mikel Arteta laid wreaths in the middle of the pitch.
Before kick-off, the late monarch was remembered with a minute’s silence. Fans sang the national anthem, the lyrics of which now read “God save the King” in honour of Charles III.
It was the first games in England’s top football league since the Queen’s death on 8 September. Last weekend, all matches had been cancelled out of respect for the monarch.
