One player out, one question mark, and one returnee ahead of the Homberg test

MSV Duisburg is facing its fifth test match of the preseason. The personnel situation ahead of the city derby with Homberg.

After an unsuccessful first test of the preseason against Münster (1-4), MSV Duisburg is once again the favorite. The Zebras will face VfB Homberg on Wednesday evening. The clash with their city rivals from the Oberliga Niederrhein will be played at the PCC Stadium, with kick-off at 6.30 p.m. (RS live ticker).

The Homberg hosts had already sold over 1,000 tickets on Monday. Tickets are still available online and there will also be a box office, which will open at 5 p.m. on the day of the game, just like the stadium. Only cash will be accepted there. This also applies to the catering area.

The Zebras are traveling with almost their entire squad. Only Mert Göckan is missing, as he was last time due to muscle problems. “It’s nothing serious, but it won’t be enough for Homberg,” coach Dietmar Hirsch said last weekend about the left-back.

There is a question mark over Tim Heike’s participation (ill). Jakob Bookjans has recovered from his calf bruise and is back in team training. Lukas Raeder is not an option for the friendly. The former Meiderich goalkeeper is currently on trial and would be in contention for the number three spot.

“We will use the game to give everyone some playing time,” coach Hirsch told MSV channels ahead of the match. Just over a week ago, Duisburg tested themselves against an Oberliga side, defeating SV Sonsbeck 6-0.

This was followed by a setback: MSV were shown their limits by second division side Preußen Münster at the weekend. The final score was 1-4. In Homberg, Hirsch’s team can be expected to put in another dominant performance before facing two challenging opponents in the final stages of their preparations: Belgian second division side Lommel SK (July 19) and Southwest Regionalliga side Kickers Offenbach (July 26).
