Sportfreunde Siegen, newly promoted to the Regionalliga, have secured their first three points. Head coach Thorsten Nehrbauer is satisfied with the start.
As newcomers from the Oberliga Westfalen, Sportfreunde Siegen and their head coach Thorsten Nehrbauer faced established Regionalliga side SV Rödinghausen on the first matchday – and came out on top.
The newcomers won the opening game of the 2025/2026 season 3-0 (2-0). Cagatay Kader (15th minute), Josue Santo (17th) and Malik Hodroj (80th) scored for Nehrbauer’s team.
The coach was highly satisfied with his team’s performance and considered the victory well deserved. “The victory is well deserved, not only because of the result, but also because of the way the game went. The first ten minutes were a bit wild, but then the 1-0 lead played into our hands and broke the deadlock. The fact that we then scored the second goal relatively quickly decided the game to a certain extent,“ analyzed the coach, adding: ”The result could have been even higher, but that would have been too much of a good thing. Rödinghausen will finish between first and sixth at the end of the season, so the euphoria is still very high among us and our fans.”
The next highlight is already waiting for SF Siegen. Next Wednesday (July 30), the regional league team will face Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund at their home ground, the Leimbachstadion, at 6:30 p.m.
Coach Nehrbauer sees this as a rare opportunity for both his team and the fans. “First and foremost, we are grateful that it worked out for Wednesday. We are looking forward to it and want to give BVB a good test, which is not an everyday occurrence for my boys or for the Siegländer. We’ve already sold 15,000 tickets, and if the weather gods are on our side, it’ll be a day to remember for all of us.”
It’s important for the coach that all his guys get some playing time, because the next Sunday (August 3) is the first away game of the Regionalliga season for SF Siegen.
Then, at 2 p.m., the team that defeated Rödinghausen will be guests at the Rote Erde stadium, where they will face BVB’s second team. “All the boys will get playing practice, because the more important game is at the weekend. We’re expecting a team that’s angry, because after the thrashing against Paderborn II, BVB II will do everything they can to get their first three points against us. We’ll be prepared for that. In terms of personnel, our captain Florian Mayer is slightly injured, so we’ll have to wait and see what the doctor says. Otherwise, Arif Güclü is back this week.”
