MSV is starting with a new second team in the Kreisliga C. But the kick-off was cancelled, the opponent withdrew its eleven.
In October 2022, MSV Duisburg began casting for a second team to compete in the Kreisliga C in the 2023/24 season, which is now starting.
Well over 70 kickers applied for the team, which consists only of MSV fans. There are more than 30 players in the squad, also not common for a team in Kreisliga C.
But things are certainly different at MSV II. The fact that all the players are rooting for the Zebras is a rare occurrence. The oldest player is over 60.
Which shows: It’s about more than the result, even if the ambition is there in the new squad. But coach Daniel Fischer cannot let his boys off the leash yet.
Because the first game, which was supposed to take place on Sunday (13 August, 3 pm), had to be cancelled. The reason: BSV Beeck, which was last relegated from Kreisliga B to the C-Kreisliga, has withdrawn its team from play.
MSV wrote via Twitter on Friday afternoon: “Wow, that’s stupid … BSV Beeck has withdrawn its team, so the premiere of our Amas on Sunday is cancelled. Then the place will be rocked on 20 August 2023 at 1pm at Eintracht Walsum II.”
They were so looking forward to the premiere. MSV was expecting 800 spectators, and there was even talk of a four-figure crowd. The first 90 minutes were to be played in Duisburg’s athletics stadium. The withdrawal of the opponent has now put a spanner in the plans.
Before the start of the season, Fischer told Forecasting with regard to the sporting goals of the season: “The league is very balanced, but we still want to finish in the top third. It will be seen what will be feasible and how far we will get.”
So now the season begins on 20 August at Eintracht Walsum, and the first home game will be on Sunday (27 August) against Viktoria Beeck II. Presumably at SV Duissern’s stadium, where the home games are usually to be played. Unless they plan to try again to welcome the new team in front of a great crowd at the first home game.
