With just a few days to go before the second half of the season kicks off in the 3. Liga, there are still a few personnel changes at the teams. This is also the case at VfL Osnabrück.
VfL Osnabrück has loaned Jannik Zahmel to TuS Blau-Weiss Lohne in the Regionalliga Nord until the summer of 2023. The VfL homegrown is expected to gain match practice in Lohne.
Zahmel moved from Borussia Dortmund to the VfL youth team in 2017 and has since passed through all of the Lila-Weißen’s youth teams. Last summer, the speedy winger signed a professional contract with VfL. In the first half of the season, Zahmel celebrated his professional debut in the away match in Dresden. And that was all.
VfL sports director Amir Shapourzadeh on the 19-year-old’s transfer: “We are quite happy with Jannik’s development, but now we think it is important that he gets as many minutes as possible in men’s football. We will keep a close eye on his development.”
In Lohne, Zahmel will meet new head coach Uwe Möhrle, who only recently joined the Blue-Whites as a former U17 coach at VfL’s youth development centre.
Viktoria Köln: Second division defender not coming
VfL Osnabrück will start the 2023 season with a home match on Saturday (14 January, 2 p.m.) against FC Viktoria Köln.
The Cologne side actually wanted to strengthen their squad with a central defender before the match at Bremer Brücke. Michael Schultz from Eintracht Braunschweig was also already very far along in negotiations with Viktoria. As reported by the “Kicker”, the 14-time second division professional was supposed to sign a contract until 30 June 2025 in Cologne-Höhenberg. In the end, however, the deal is said to have fallen through due to differing financial expectations.
