Osnabrück makes change to coaching team – new man comes from FC Bayern

Personnel changes at the crisis child of the 3rd division: VfL Osnabrück coach Pit Reimers gets a new analyst, but loses an assistant coach.

VfL Osnabrück is in the throes of a crisis. Last year they were still in the second division of the Bundesliga, but now they have been relegated to the third division. And things are not going any better there either, which is why there will be the next change in personnel.

After the 0-3 defeat to Dynamo Dresden, the Lower Saxony team are bottom of the table after 14 match days. They have only managed two wins, and with 28 goals scored against them, VfL have the worst defense in the league.

After just six matchdays, coach Uwe Koschinat was dismissed, and things have improved only marginally for his successor Pit Reimers (1 win, 2 draws, 4 defeats). Now, the bottom-placed team has announced further changes to the coaching staff during the international break.

Assistant coach Maniyel Nergiz is leaving the club, and a new video analyst is coming. Nergiz only joined Koschinat’s coaching staff in the summer and has now asked for his contract to be terminated “for personal reasons,” the club said in a statement.

We are now looking intensively at which profile can usefully complement our coaching team in the current situation.

VfL Managing Director of Sports Philipp Kaufmann
“We respect Maniyel’s wish and we quickly found a solution together. On behalf of VfL, I would like to thank Maniyel for his commitment to the club and for working with us. We wish him all the best for his professional and personal future,” says VfL Managing Director of Sports Philipp Kaufmann.

To cushion the blow, reinforcements will also be coming from FC Bayern. Ferhat Findik is joining from the record champions’ youth academy. “We are now taking a close look at which profile our coaching team can usefully add to in the current situation. Meanwhile, we have filled the position of analyst, which Maniyel previously held in parallel, with Ferhat Findik. With the change of coach, video analysis has been given more weight in our daily work, and the signing of Ferhat reflects this. We are also convinced that we can benefit greatly from this in the future.”

The next few weeks will show whether this personnel change will be effective. VfL has important matches coming up if it is to stay out of the relegation zone between now and Christmas. The next game for Osnabrück is on Sunday (November 24) at FC Ingolstadt.
