Outstanding second division season – NRW club ahead in the race for shooting star

Paul Nebel has more than impressed as a loan player at Karlsruher SC and is returning to Mainz 05. However, according to this editorial team, it is unlikely that he will stay there.

Paul Nebel has not yet been able to establish himself at 1. FSV Mainz 05. A loan last season provided a remedy. The 21-year-old attacking midfielder was loaned out to Karlsruher SC – and made his breakthrough. This is now attracting the attention of several Bundesliga clubs.

Nebel scored five goals and provided nine assists in 33 second division games for KSC last season – he was almost always in the starting eleven. Now that he is returning to 1. FSV Mainz 05, this has aroused further desire. According to information from this editorial team, the Rheinhessen club would like to extend Nebel’s contract. According to our information, Borussia Mönchengladbach and Union Berlin are also interested in the attacking player.

One after the other: Mainz want to extend Nebel’s contract, but as things stand, the player does not want to do so – according to our information, he is willing to move. At 1. FC Union Berlin, Bo Svensson, the coach with whom he was unable to assert himself during their time together in Mainz, is under contract. Nebel ultimately moved to KSC on loan.

The Union option is unlikely. Mönchengladbach are hotter on the trail, as they are likely to have a use for the 21-year-old attacking midfielder in the event of another upheaval. According to our information, a move to the colts is absolutely realistic.

Nebel comes from the Mainz youth team

Nebel joined Mainz 05 in the summer of 2016 from the youth ranks of Kickers Offenbach, where he progressed through the U17s and U19s before making the leap to the professional ranks in the summer of 2020. After two years without a breakthrough, he went on loan to Karlsruhe in the summer of 2022. After a good first year, the deal was extended by a further year in the summer of 2023.

Now, however, Nebel is finally returning to the Rhineland-Palatinate state capital. Just how long he will actually stay there is more than unclear. It is quite possible that he will soon pack his bags again and move on to Mönchengladbach.
