Julian Nagelsmann, who was recently given leave of absence from FC Bayern Munich, is said to already be considering a coaching job at Chelsea FC. This was reported by Sky on Tuesday.
Sometimes things can happen quickly in football. The example of Julian Nagelsmann makes that clear once again. The 35-year-old was only relieved of his duties as head coach of FC Bayern Munich on 24 March and could soon be back on the sidelines at another big club.
This is said to be Chelsea FC – two-time Champions League winners (2012, 2021). According to information from the pay-TV channel “Sky”, those responsible at Chelsea are currently holding talks with Nagelsmann and other coaching candidates. The Premier League club parted ways with former coach Graham Potter a few days ago.
On the “Sky90” talk show, CEO Oliver Kahn left open whether the Munich managers would demand a transfer fee for Nagelsmann, for whom they had paid a double-digit million sum to RB Leipzig in 2021. Kahn also emphasised: “I can hardly imagine him becoming a coach anywhere during the season. He will certainly need some time to let things settle and reflect.”
But the former German international goalkeeper could be wrong. According to the Daily Mail, Nagelsmann is said to be the top candidate for the job at the London club, who have reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League where they face Real Madrid.
But former PSG and Tottenham coach Mauricio Pochettino, Spain’s former national coach Luis Enrique, France’s former World Cup winner Zinedine Zidane and Eintracht Frankfurt’s Oliver Glasner are also being mooted as possible Potter successors. There is a lot of competition for Nagelsmann, but he should not think his chances are bad. fn with dpa
