Ten teams are fighting against relegation in the second division. Nuremberg and Magdeburg achieve important successes in the process. There is spectacle in Hanover.
Thanks to a spectacular energy performance, SC Paderborn remains in the promotion race in the 2nd Bundesliga.
On Saturday, the SCP managed to win 4:3 (2:2) in a wild game at Hannover 96, their third victory in a row. The team of coach Lukas Kwasniok turned around an early 0:2. The match-winner with two goals was Robert Leipertz (6th and 56th minute). In addition, the former 96 professional Florent Muslija (26th) and Sirlord Conteh (71st) scored for the visitors.
Even a lightning start with a brace from Cedric Teuchert (2nd/4th) was not enough for the Lower Saxons to secure their first victory in 2023. Maximilian Beier’s follow-up (83rd) came too late in the end. With 26 points from 20 games, Hannover, now in eighth place in the table, no longer seem to have any ambitions for promotion. Paderborn, now with 35 points, moved up to fourth place, at least for one day, and put pressure on their direct rivals.
In the exciting relegation race, 1. FC Nuremberg also achieved an important success in the league three days after their lucky eighth-final victory in the DFB Cup against Fortuna Düsseldorf after a penalty shoot-out. The traditional club triumphed 1:0 (0:0) in the Franconian-Bavarian duel against Jahn Regensburg. The decisive goal for the otherwise tired-looking Nuremberg side was scored by Enrico Valentini with a brilliant shot (56th). The victory gave the club a small lead of three points over the relegation places and Regensburg, who dropped to the bottom of the table with 19 points.
As 1. FC Magdeburg also picked up important points in a 3-2 (1-1) win at Holstein Kiel, the promoted side moved past Jahn, who are level on points. The team of coach Christian Titz showed morale, equalised twice after conceding goals by Patrick Erras (33.) and Fiete Arp (54.) through Daniel Elfadli (45.) and Herbert Bockhorn (70.) and struck again shortly before the end. Moritz Kwarteng (86th) scored the important winning goal and Magdeburg moved into a non-relegation place with 21 points.
