One year ago, Milos Pantovic moved from VfL Bochum to Union Berlin. There he has to cope with another setback.
With his move from VfL Bochum to Union Berlin, Milos Pantovic actually wanted to take the next step. But his first year in the capital was sobering: while the Köpenicker celebrated the biggest success in the club’s history by reaching the Champions League, Pantovic only made 13 appearances in the Bundesliga. Not once was the 27-year-old attacking player in the starting eleven.
And now the ex-Bochum player had to deal with another setback. He was dropped from the squad for the test matches against Rapid Wien during the week (3:0) and Holstein Kiel – apparently for sporting reasons.
“I was still in the squad for the first two test matches, now suddenly I’m not,” Pantovic reacted to his booting out to Sport1. “Being out while everyone else is playing is tough and a bit surprising. The feedback from the sporting management was actually positive recently. It is surprising that it is now going in this direction.”
Last season, the Munich-born player was already unable to assert himself against the competition in midfield. With the signings of players like Lucas Tousart (Hertha BSC), Brenden Aaronson (Leeds United/loan) or Alex Kral (Spartak Moscow/loan), the situation has become even worse.
VfL Bochum: Pantovic scores spectacular goals
Pantovic is nevertheless combative: “But I accept the situation and don’t shy away from the challenge,” said the German Serb. “I am ambitious, want to play and am ready to fight. But it has to be fair. Last season I already couldn’t show myself and didn’t get a proper chance.” He nevertheless showed himself open to a change to Sport1.
It was a completely different story during his time in Bochum. Pantovic played regularly for VfL both in the promotion year and in the Bundesliga. His spectacular long-range goals against Hoffenheim and Freiburg in the autumn of 2021 are particularly memorable. Pantovic played a total of 100 competitive games for the Revierklub (13 goals, 14 assists).
After the summer break, the former Serbian junior international may be back on the pitch on a regular basis – for a new club.
