Penalty instead of striker foul – where Alemannia Aachen got really lucky

Alemannia Aachen crushed 1. FC Schweinfurt 05 5-1. According to former referee Babak Rafati, one goal too many was scored.

Alemannia Aachen gave coach Benedetto Muzzicato his second consecutive victory on his 47th birthday. Alemannia followed up their 3-2 win against Waldhof Mannheim with a 5-1 gala performance in Schweinfurt.

After falling behind early, Aachen’s Lukas Scepanik equalized with a fantastic free kick into the corner. In the second half, Mika Schröers followed up with a flawless hat trick. With the 5-1 score, Lars Gindorf scored his fourth penalty goal and is now Aachen’s top scorer with a total of six goals.

However, this penalty should not have been awarded, as former referee Babak Rafati explains for “Liga3online.”

“In this duel, Piwernetz clearly plays the ball. If anything, Gindorf then hits the defender’s foot and not the other way around. Awarding a penalty in this scene is a clear misjudgment. The correct decision would have been to let play continue or even to award a striker’s foul.”

Points Table

Gindorf and everyone who supports Alemannia didn’t care. Muzzicato, coach of Alemannia Aachen, said of the landslide victory on his birthday: “It wasn’t a liberating blow. We have to stay true to ourselves. We have a very difficult home game against Aue on Tuesday. We need to perform like we did in the second half. I’m not happy with the first half.”

And there was another controversial decision. Before Scpeanik’s 1-1 goal, Alemannia Aachen was awarded a free kick. Was that correct?

“In a duel just outside the penalty area, Castelle gets to the ball first and puts it in front of him. Zeller, who also wants to play the ball, arrives a little too late and misses the ball. He only manages to stop Castelle with his knee by extending the leg with which he missed the ball. Consequently, there is a free kick for Castelle,“ says Rafati. In the end, Schweinfurt will have to look elsewhere for the reasons for their defeat. The ”Schnüdel” remain winless and bottom of the table.
