KFC Uerdingen have once again strengthened their team with an experienced player. The club made the official announcement on Tuesday evening (29 August).
Fabio Simoes Ribeiro will play for KFC Uerdingen with immediate effect. The defensive midfielder most recently played for regional league team 1. FC Bocholt, where he only terminated his contract, which was originally valid until 30 June 2024, at the beginning of the week.
Before that, the Portuguese, who was born in Mönchengladbach, spent six years at SV Straelen and worked with the current KFC sporting director and coach Marcus John at Römerstraße and in Bocholt. The 33-year-old also played for FC Wegberg-Beeck, 1. FC Viersen, 1. FC Mönchengladbach and Rheydter SV.
“Fabio Ribeiro is a player we don’t have in our ranks yet. He is both strong in two fights and intelligent in the game and solves the situations in front of the defence without many fouls,” says John.
In addition to Ribeiro, KFC could also welcome another young talent to their ranks before the end of the summer transfer window on Friday, 1 September (7pm). Here, too, final talks are still pending.
KFC Uerdingen celebrated their first win in their third game last weekend against Sportfreunde Hamborn. John was accordingly relieved.
After his team was not quite convincing in the first two games of the season, John now hopes that the victory against Hamborn has given his team new self-confidence and that the performance curve will continue to rise: “Overall, we still have room for improvement. We have to get to the point where we don’t just play a dominant game when things are going well for us. We have to continue to play patiently, even when the score is 0:1. After the start, though, hopefully that was a chest burster now.”
After the 3-0 win over Hamborn, KFC continue on Sunday (3 September, 5pm) with the derby at SC St. Tönis.
