Schalke 04 has confirmed the second external addition. He comes from Union Berlin.
After Ron Schallenberg (SC Paderborn), FC Schalke has signed another midfielder.
Paul Seguin joins FC Schalke 04 from Union Berlin. The 28-year-old, who is the second external addition for the Königsblauen, has signed a contract until the end of the 2025/2026 season. All parties agreed not to disclose the modalities of the transfer.
“We are delighted to have been able to attract Paul to Schalke. He brings a broad skill profile for his position, both offensively and defensively. His strengths lie in his high understanding of the game, he can create promising attacking situations for our team with his courageous passing game,” explains S04 sports director André Hechelmann.
Schalke coach Thomas Reis adds: “Paul has a quick grasp of spaces and running routes, so he can create opportunities for us in depth. These are exactly the skills we will need in order to create goal-scoring opportunities and ultimately make the most of them. He knows from his time at Fürth what it means to hold your nerve in a promotion battle and make the leap to the Bundesliga.”
Seguin made 20 appearances for Union Berlin last season (one goal, three assists), mostly as a wild card. Seguin also knows how to get promoted to the Bundesliga. With Greuther Fürth, he made the leap from the 2nd Bundesliga to the top flight in the 2020/21 season.
The player can hardly wait for the start: “The sporting management has shown a very interesting path in the talks, which I would like to take together with the team here at Schalke. I’m looking forward to playing in front of the emotional Schalke fans in the arena.”
Two external newcomers, Schalke paid a transfer fee for both. However, the sales of Can Bozdogan and Jordan Larsson mean that money is available. In addition, Marius Bülter and Rodrigo Zalazar should also bring money into the S04 coffers soon.
