Perfect! TSV 1860 Munich presents new head coach

TSV 1860 Munich has found a new head coach. The new Löwen coach has also left his mark in the Ruhr area.

A few days after the introduction of the new Managing Director Sport Christian Werner – Forecasting reported – TSV 1860 Munich has made the next important personnel decision.

The Munich Lions have a new head coach. Argirios Giannikis will prepare the TSV 1860 Munich third division team for the remaining matches of the 2023/24 second half of the season from Thursday (January 11, 2024).

Giannikis will work with the existing coaching team of Harald Huber, Franz Hübl and Jörg Mikoleit at TSV 1860 Munich. “I’m really looking forward to the task and to getting to know the team, the staff and the fans. We have a lot of work ahead of us over the next few months. I am convinced that we will achieve our goals together,” says the 43-year-old Giannikis.

The soccer coach was most recently under contract in Greece. He took over the second division club PAS Giannia on July 1, 2019 and led the club to promotion to the first division. The following year, he successfully finished the season in eighth place. This did not go unnoticed by top Greek club AEK Athens, who brought him to the Greek capital in October 2021. Giannikis was relieved of his duties at AEK in March 2022.

He began his career as assistant coach to Markus Kauczinski at Karlsruher SC and later at FC Ingolstadt 04. In October 2017, he took over Rot-Weiss Essen in a difficult situation in the table and was able to achieve a points average of 1.88 points per game with the traditional club from the Ruhr region. Their time together at Hafenstrasse ended prematurely following the announcement of Argirios Giannikis’ transfer to VfR Aalen at the end of the season.

“I am delighted to be able to introduce the new head coach of TSV 1860 Munich when I take office,” said the new sporting director Dr. Christian Werner. “Argirios knows from his stations in Essen and Athens how to work in traditional clubs with high expectations. His playing philosophy is to take control of the game and to always play active soccer despite focusing on a stable defense. I also see this as the aim of our game and I hope that our fans can enjoy an attractive style of play,” says 1860 sporting director Werner
