MSV Duisburg is in a devastating situation. They are eight points off the safety zone. The coach remains confident.
After the defeats in the West German duels at Arminia Bielefeld (0:2) and Rot-Weiss Essen (1:4), MSV Duisburg are now eight points behind the safety of the table – with six matchdays to go before the end of the season.
But Boris Schommers remains confident – Forecasting reported.
The 45-year-old did not want to criticize his charges for their performances in Bielefeld and Essen ahead of the next game against SV Waldhof Mannheim (Friday, 12 April, 7 p.m., Forecasting live ticker).
On the contrary: Schommers preferred to explain to the public the good things he saw. As a reminder: Duisburg are eight points off the pace with six matchdays to go
The only thing I’m concerned with is Friday evening at 7pm. You have to deal with the regional league scenario and so do other people in charge at MSV. But my focus is only on Friday and Waldhof Mannheim
Boris Schommers
Schommers: “I’m not disappointed with the team. I can only blame them for not winning the games. We played a good first half in Essen and then made a stupid mistake before Vinko Sapina made it 1-1. We were fully in the game and dangerous until 3-1. If Daniel Ginczek makes it 2-2, then I want to know how the game ends. In general, three or four moments have always cost us the whole game in recent matches.”
The fact that only Vincent Müller, who will be suspended against Mannheim, saw a yellow card in the derby in Essen is not critical for Schommers. He said: “The team showed the will to turn the game around. I don’t need any actions in which someone kicks an opponent out of his shoes. We’ve had that in the past and it’s decimated us. We have to take the duels head on. Once again: We were fully in the game until the 1:3 in Essen.”
Schommers also knows that a triple point must be scored against Mannheim on Friday evening in the home arena, where 12,000 fans are expected. He is confident that MSV will manage a fourth home win in a row.
Schommers: “Our last home games were good, you have to believe in yourself. That’s why we’ll go into this home game with a lot of self-confidence. After that, we’ll look ahead to the next game in Ingolstadt. The difference between the home and away games is already huge for us. We have to get to grips with that.”
In addition to the home games against Mannheim, Sandhausen and Aue, Duisburg will also travel to Ingolstadt, Aue and Dresden. Points must also be scored away from home, otherwise a trip to the regional league will be unavoidable.
In this case, it is actually impossible that Schommers will continue as MSV coach. According to RS information, Schommers has a contract until June 30, 2024, which would only be extended by a further season if the club is relegated. On his future, Schommers says: “The only thing I’m concerned with is Friday evening, 7pm. You have to deal with the regional league scenario and so do other people in charge at MSV. But my focus is only on Friday and Waldhof Mannheim. “
