Oberliga club Adler Union Frintrop will host Mülheimer FC on Saturday. Coach Marcel Cornelissen is hoping for an improvement in performance compared to the ETB derby.
All fans of amateur soccer in Essen will be spoilt for choice on Saturday afternoon: On the one hand, the Oberliga basement duel between Adler Union Frintrop and Mülheimer FC will take place, while at the same time there will be the absolute top match between Blau-Gelb Überruhr and Genc Osman Duisburg two leagues below in the Bezirksliga.
For Adler Union, the promotion duel against MFC is of great importance. Both teams have 21 points, but the visitors have the better goal difference. The constellation is therefore clear for Adler Union: a home win would put the regional league champions from the previous year back in contention for relegation.
“Saturday won’t decide the season, but the next few weeks will. If we let the game slip away and then play against Schonnebeck and Ratingen, it could quickly get into unpleasant territory. That’s why we have to stretch ourselves and invest everything in winning this game,” explained Frintrop’s promotion coach Marcel Cornelissen with regard to the basement duel at the Wasserturm.
The 36-year-old was not at all satisfied with his team’s performance in the last game. Because: Adler Union conceded a deserved 2-0 defeat in the Essen derby at ETB Schwarz-Weiß Essen. In the first half, Adler Union did not play at all and were clearly inferior. It was only after the break that the Oberliga club improved and began to mount an attack. This is another reason why the coach demands a consistent performance over the full match against Mülheim:
We need 90 highly concentrated and committed minutes, not 45. It’s simply not enough in this league if we only play 45 minutes with commitment. We have to get that into our heads quickly, otherwise we’ll be in for a rude awakening on Saturday. Our opponents have been on the upswing since the change of manager and are very, very unpleasant to play against.

We need a high level of commitment, willingness and conviction. “
