Ex-World Cup winner Lukas Podolski has reported “very good” talks with his long-standing club 1. FC Köln and believes a return to the cathedral city is possible.
“We’ve already exchanged ideas, I think that’s very nice. If things continue like this, I can well imagine helping FC Köln in a position closer to the club than before. After my career, I first have to decide what I want,” Podolski, who is still playing for Polish club Gornik Zabrze, told TV channel Sky.
However, there are currently more important things than finding a place for Lukas Podolski in the next two weeks, said the 38-year-old, referring to the relegation battle of his favorite club, where his professional career once began. The current situation sucks.
“The most important thing now is to solve the sporting problems and stay in the league. That has to be the focus until May. All other things such as the financial aspects, problems with the city or the Baumgart issue should be left behind for now. The FC now has a new coach and this first home game of the new year next week. That’s what you have to focus on. Everything else is just talk,” emphasized the 130-time international.
