Poor start reduces satisfaction

SC Obersprockhövel have not yet been able to put the experience in their squad on the road. The Westfalenliga 2 is looking up.

With just one win from its first six games, SC Obersprockhövel made a more than modest start to the Westfalenliga 2 season. Since then, the team has recovered and, before the winter break, had not lost six games in a row. However, the mid-table finish is not the end of the season.

Jörg Niedergethmann, sporting director of SC Obersprockhövel, talks about…

The first half of the league season: “We are very unhappy with the start. We didn’t score enough points in the first few games. We then got our act together and if Dawid Ginczek hadn’t dropped out, we could certainly have had four or five more points. But all in all, we are satisfied.”

What was your best moment? “That was the home win against TuS Erndtebrück. We put in a very solid and mature performance. Erndtebrück never had a chance to win at our place.”

What was your worst moment? “The absolute low point was the game against SV Sodingen, who I think were still bottom of the table at the time. That was our worst game of the season.”

The goals for 2024: “That’s clearly a single-digit place in the table, or to finish in the top six. With the squad we have, out of 23 outfield players, 18 have played in the Oberliga and four in the Regionalliga, all with TSG Sprockhövel. We actually have a good squad, it’s just that the teams at the top are probably a bit better across the board. But the group is very evenly matched. If we hadn’t had the bad start, we could even be playing for promotion. But that is by no means our goal. We are happy with the Westfalenliga. We have grown continuously as a club and have a very good environment here. The team has been together for a relatively long time. We’re not going to buy like crazy, as others might do. “
