MSV Duisburg can win in the 3rd division after all. The 4-0 thumping victory in Bayreuth means that planning for the new season can begin.
It took almost two months before MSV Duisburg was able to come off the pitch as a winner again. On March 5, the Zebras had won 3:2 at VfB Oldenburg, and after eight winless games, the Meiderich club celebrated a 4:0 thumping victory at SpVgg Bayreuth on Saturday afternoon, thus eliminating the last doubts in the relegation battle of the 3rd League.
The game went according to the taste of the 600 MSV fans. Niklas Kölle’s brace and Julian Hettwer’s and Rolf Feltscher’s joker goals made the win perfect, while Vincent Müller kept his box clean for the first time in two months. MSV always scored at the right moment and was rewarded for the high effort of the past weeks.
Yet Torsten Ziegner was not at all pleased with the performance in the first half despite the lead. “It was a nice move, but simply much too fahrig. We kept giving the opponent situations, weren’t close enough to the man and didn’t clear consistently. Overall, we were far too inaccurate in our own possession and had the opportunity to switch better,” said the coach, who recognized a clear improvement in performance after the change of ends.
Also thanks to matchwinner Kölle, who also prepared another goal. “He was not in the squad before the Elversberg game and has already scored, now again. I’m totally happy for him. He didn’t stop working, that’s the reward,” praised Ziegner.
After the announcement of sport managing director Ralf Heskamp from some month ago the 45-year-old assumes this time really to “99.9 per cent” to have bagged the class preservation in the 3rd league. The season goal was thus achieved four match days before the end.
The 500-kilometer bus trip will pass quickly for the team, as Ziegner explained at the microphone of Magenta Sport. “Our physio has become a father and has promised as much beer as the players want if we win. “
