Preparations for Fürth underway – six professionals missing from training

Schalke 04 has started preparations for its home game against Greuther Fürth. Here is how the squad looked at training on Monday.

Two days after their 0-1 away defeat at Hannover 96, FC Schalke 04 has started preparations for their upcoming second division match at Greuther Fürth. Coach Kees van Wonderen will celebrate his home debut in Saturday’s match and hope that it will be more successful than his debut in Hannover.

The Gelsenkirchen team had to do without striker Emil Höjlund there. The 19-year-old could have possibly revitalized the sluggish offense. However, he had to withdraw due to problems with his Achilles tendon.

Höjlund has still not overcome this injury, as the young Dane was still absent from the first training session of the new week on Monday afternoon. The club did not provide a prognosis for when he can be expected to return.

Adrian Gantenbein is also still out. The right-back suffered a calf injury in the friendly against FC Aarau (2-2) during the international break. Tobias Mohr was also absent at the start of the week. The left winger injured his shoulder in a collision in Hanover. According to the club, he will train individually on Monday and Tuesday.

Michael Langer suffers knee injury

Ilyes Hamache is also currently unable to take part in van Wonderen’s training sessions. He is complaining of problems with his foot, which is why he was already absent at the weekend. Christopher Antwi-Adjei is still undergoing individual rehabilitation training after his thigh injury. The sixth S04 professional who was absent on Monday is Michael Langer. The third goalkeeper has suffered a knee injury. According to the Royal Blues, the veteran will have to take a break for “a few weeks.”

Ron-Thorben Hoffmann will be between the posts again this weekend, before Justin Heekeren gets his chance in two games, as announced. Van Wonderen then wants to decide on a regular goalkeeper.
