The MSV Duisburg does not come to rest. President Ingo Wald responds to criticism from club legend Ferenc Schmidt with an open letter.
Ferenc Schmidt played 200 competitive games for MSV Duisburg in the 1980s and 1990s. After the club legend, who is now 60 years old, voiced harsh criticism of the third-division club’s development in a YouTube interview last week, he reportedly followed up on social media.
On Tuesday, MSV president Ingo Wald responded to Schmidt’s statements with an open letter on the club’s website. “Traitor” or “blind president” who was trying to “still somehow save his own ass,” Wald had been called on Facebook by the former striker – “combined with the claim that the board had given in to the wishes of a sponsor in releasing Ralf Heskamp.”
Wald rejected this accusation. The operating business “was, is and will be” not influenced by sponsors, the 65-year-old emphasized. In addition, Wald explained that Schmidt “as an MSV legend elected by the fans of the Zebras” has the opportunity at home games to communicate concerns, needs and constructive criticism to the board. “Unfortunately, you have never made use of it so far.”
Schmidt also said he could use the members’ evenings or general meetings hosted by the board as a platform. “And you can stand up there, for example, with your own team to lead the game club responsibly into a better future. “
In conclusion, it says: “Dear Mr. Schmidt, we look forward to the dialogue with you, but would also like to point out that we will consider legal action in the future in case of deliberate untruths.”
It remains thus further turbulent with the Zebras, which released after the coach change of Torsten Ziegner to Engin Vural well two weeks ago on Sunday with sport managing director Ralf Heskamp already the second responsible person in this season.
What could provide a little peace in the short term: a victory in the home game against SpVgg Unterhaching on Saturday (2 p.m.). It would be the first of the season for the 3. Liga
bottom team.
