Despite promotion to the 3rd division, SC Preußen Münster has made a loss. Nevertheless, the company is on a sound footing.
Regionalliga champions, promotion to the 3rd division and a solid mid-table position at the turn of the year. In sporting terms, things are going brilliantly at SC Preußen Münster. Financially, however, the GmbH & Co. KGaA has recorded an operating loss of around 1.4 million euros. This was announced by the eagle bearers on Friday.
Nevertheless, there is no reason to panic. “SC Preußen Münster 06 GmbH & Co KGaA remains on a very good financial footing and can therefore also cope with the negative result in the 2022/23 financial year,” the statement read.
Preußen Münster: Equity is fundamental
The reasons for the loss cited by the club include the loss of coronavirus aid and income from the DFB Cup. In addition, value adjustments from defaulted receivables and increased interest expenses had a negative impact. Six-figure contributions to the employers’ liability insurance association that were suspended during the coronavirus pandemic also became due again.
In addition, investments had already been made in important consulting services for the stadium expansion in the 2022/23 financial year and expenses for the first team had increased.
All of this was cushioned by equity, “which is also becoming increasingly important in view of the stricter equity requirements in the DFB licensing process.”
This was expanded through the sale of further shares. “As at the balance sheet date of June 30, 2023, equity stood at a pleasing EUR 1.7 million – in the current season, as already announced, it was increased by EUR 470,000 to around EUR 2.2 million.”
Further marketing opportunities thanks to completion of the stadium
Of course, sporting development goes hand in hand with financial development. Preußen Münster hopes that the expansion and completion of the stadium will open up further marketing opportunities, “which will have a positive effect on the economic performance of SC Preußen Münster 06 GmbH & Co KGaA. Until completion, the focus is therefore on achieving a balance between sporting success and economic resilience and working on further professionalizing the infrastructure.”
Staying in the 3rd division would be an advantage. With 25 points from 19 games, Sascha Hildmann’s team is well on the way to achieving this goal
